Understanding True Wealth Through a Supplication
This article explores the meaning of Hasan Basri’s prayer for abundance, emphasizing that genuine richness isn’t found in material wealth but in contentment, detachment, and devotion to Allah. It draws upon Islamic teachings regarding true prosperity.
Hasan Basri’s Powerful Dua
Hasan Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) would supplicate to Allah with the following words:
اَللهُمَّ أَغْنِن۪ى بِالْفَقْرِ اِلَيْكَ وَلَا تُفْقِرْن۪ى بِالْاِسْتِغْنَاءِ عَنْكَ
“O Allah, enrich me with poverty in relation to You and do not impoverish me with self-sufficiency from You.”
The Essence of True Wealth
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) emphasized that true wealth lies not in the abundance of possessions but in the contentment of the heart. Accordingly, a person’s level of wealth is directly proportional to their contentment and detachment. Contentment is described in a hadith as an inexhaustible treasure. True believers are those who possess this blessing and are generous in spending.
