The Growing Number of Hafiz in Turkey

The number of Hafiz in Turkey has reached nearly 250,000, according to recent announcements made during an Ijazah ceremony in Aydın. This significant milestone reflects the ongoing commitment to Quran memorization and preservation within the nation.

The Ijazah ceremony was organized by the Aydın Directorate of Religious Affairs and celebrated 115 students who successfully completed their Hifz (memorization) education.

A Celebration of Dedication

  • The event took place at the Efeler Mimar Sinan Indoor Sports Hall.
  • Attendees included Deputy Chairman of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, Dr. Hafız Osman Şahin, Aydın Governor Dr. Osman Varol, and local officials.

The program began with a recitation from the Quran, followed by an opening speech from the Director of Religious Affairs, Hasan Güneş. He emphasized the importance of Hifz, highlighting that those who memorize the Quran undertake a vital responsibility in its preservation. He congratulated the students, their families, and teachers, recognizing this achievement as a result of patience, determination, and effort.

A Sacred Trust

“Today, our Hafiz will be guardians of the Quran. As stated by our Prophet (peace be upon him), Quran memorizers are the most honorable people in the community.”

Deputy Chairman of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, Hafız Osman Şahin, underscored that memorizing the Quran is a great trust and responsibility.

He further stated that with the addition of these newly certified Hafiz, Turkey’s total number of Hafiz now approaches 250,000. He congratulated the students, their families, and teachers, and noted that the Presidency of Religious Affairs continues to provide Quranic and religious education for all age groups, emphasizing the importance of learning the Quran and enriching life through it.

Quran as a Guide

Aydın Governor Osman Varol also spoke at the event, stating that Hifz is not merely an activity of memorization but rather involves understanding the Quran’s role as a divine book guiding humanity.

The program concluded with a recitation by distinguished reciters, a prayer by Member of the Mushaf Review and Recitation Board, Fatih Okumuş, and the presentation of plaques to the students.
