The pursuit of Allah’s favor is a lifelong journey, and where to find Allah is a question pondered by many throughout history. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of seeking Him in unexpected places – within the hearts of those who are broken.

Allah’s Presence: Seeking in Broken Hearts

The story of Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) beautifully illustrates this profound truth. Overwhelmed and seeking guidance, he implored:

“O my Lord! Where shall I find You?”

Allah responded with a revelation that continues to resonate deeply within the hearts of believers:

“You will find Me in the company of those who are brokenhearted.” (Abu Nuaym, Hilye, II, 364)

Embracing Compassion and Empathy

This response isn’t merely a geographical direction; it’s a spiritual guidance. It teaches us that true closeness to Allah is found through:

  • Listening to the silent cries of the oppressed
  • Being present with those who are suffering
  • Becoming a source of support for the vulnerable and marginalized
  • Easing the burdens of others, especially those facing hardship

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) frequently reminded his companions to reflect on their actions:

“Did you stroke an orphan’s head today? Did you visit a sick person? Were you present at a funeral?” (Muslim, Fedâilu’s-Sahâbe, 12)

These acts of kindness and compassion are not merely charitable deeds; they are pathways to drawing closer to Allah. By connecting with the suffering of others, we connect with the divine.
