The following account sheds light on a significant event that occurred during the distribution of spoils after the Battle of Hunayn, highlighting the principles of Prophet’s Hadith, patience, and the importance of respecting the Prophet’s judgment. This incident serves as a reminder that true justice stems from divine guidance and adherence to Islamic teachings.
The Test of Justice at Hunayn
During the distribution of spoils after the Battle of Hunayn, the Prophet (peace be upon him) allocated larger shares to certain individuals, including Akra bin Habis (100 camels) and Uyayna bin Hisn (a similar amount). He also granted a slightly increased share to prominent Arab leaders. A man then voiced his concern:
“I swear by Allah, there is no fairness in this distribution, nor has the pleasure of Allah been considered!”
Responding to this statement, I (Abdullah bin Mas’ud) said:
“I swear by Allah that I will mention this to the Prophet (peace be upon him).”
Upon hearing these words, the Prophet’s countenance turned red with distress.
The Prophetic Response: Justice from Allah and His Messenger
He then declared:
“If Allah and His Messenger do not act justly, then who will?”
Continuing his explanation, he said:
“May Allah have mercy on Moses. He was subjected to a more severe accusation than this, yet he persevered.”
