The Blessings Reserved for the Patient Poor
A beautiful hadith highlights the profound rewards destined for those who demonstrate patience and resilience, particularly among the poor migrants. This narrative offers comfort and encouragement, reminding us of Allah’s mercy and the blessings that await those who persevere through hardship.
The Hadith of Abu Sa’id al-Hudri
According to a narration by Abu Sa’id al-Hudri (RA), the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shared a profound message regarding the rewards for patient, impoverished migrants. The story unfolds as follows:
“I was sitting with a group of poor migrants. Some of them were trying to cover themselves from the shadows of others because they didn’t have clothing that could completely conceal them. Someone was reciting the Quran to us. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) came out and stood by us. When the Prophet recited the Quran, the person reading stopped. The Prophet gave a greeting, and then asked:
‘What are you doing?’
We replied, ‘O Messenger of Allah! He is our teacher, reciting to us the Book of Allah, and we are listening.’
The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said:
“All praise is due to Allah who has created among my Ummah those with whom I am commanded to persevere.” [1]
Then the Prophet (peace be upon him), may peace and blessings be upon him, sat among us at our level. He gestured with his hand and said:
“Do so!”
The community immediately formed a circle around him and turned their faces towards him. Finally, the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave us this good news:
“O poor migrants! I give you tidings of complete light on the Day of Resurrection. You will enter Paradise, before the wealthy people by half a day. This half-day is like five hundred years.”” (Abu Dawud, Ilm, 13/3666)
This illustrates the rewards awaiting those who embody patience and are of limited means.
