The Crisis of Global Capitalism and Islamic Values
Today’s world often operates under a capitalist system that prioritizes power and profit, a situation that stands in sharp contrast to Islamic values. The differences between the fundamental principles of Islam—which emphasize justice and honesty—and this paradigm lie at the heart of many global challenges.
The Role of Muslim Countries
Despite hosting 57 member states in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the collective voice of the Muslim world is often ineffective on a global scale. This situation is linked to the disconnect between leaders and their peoples, as well as to policies implemented after World War II.
Fragmentation and Historical Policies
The region has historically experienced periods of stability under strong empires (such as the Ottoman Empire), as well as periods of instability marked by internal conflicts. The arbitrary borders drawn by imperial powers after World War I fragmented the Islamic world and led to artificial divisions based on ethnicity and sect.
The Impact of British Policies
British policy in the region has consistently aimed to prevent the development of the population, fuel conflicts, and hinder unity. This strategy, which has lasted for nearly a century, has been one of the main driving forces behind the fragmentation.
Iran-Gulf Tension and Shifting Power Balances
Recent tensions between Iran and the Gulf countries, along with attacks on US bases, underscore the instability in the region. The Gulf states’ dependence on American security guarantees is being questioned, and this could potentially lead to a shift in alliances. Dubai’s financial center, built on artificial foundations, may be vulnerable to disruptions.
The Weakness of Islamic Institutions
Institutions such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League have largely remained ineffective due to internal divisions and external influence. The establishment of these organizations has often been shaped by agendas aimed at weakening Muslim unity.
Towards Islamic Unity
Three fundamental elements are required to achieve true unity: political independence, a strong defense industry (especially in fields such as unmanned aerial vehicle technology), and a robust economy. As stated in Sūrat al-Baqara (verse 25), ‘He who controls iron [technology] distributes justice.’
