Meaning and Importance of the “Allâhümme Bike Asbahnâ” Dua
Dua (Supplication) is a servant’s acknowledgement of their powerlessness before Allah’s majesty, expressing love and reverence while seeking His grace and assistance. The word “duā” carries meanings such as “to call, to invoke, to desire, and to seek help,” and it generally refers to “a request and entreaty from the lesser to the greater, from the lower to the higher.” Praying is praised and encouraged both in verses of the Quran and in hadith. Allah (SWT) says: “Fear Him and hope for His mercy.” (Surah Al-A’raf, 7/56). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said: “There is nothing more precious in the sight of Allah than supplication.” (Tirmidhi, Da’awat, 1; Ibn Majah, Dua, 1)
“ALLÂHÜMME BİKE ASBAHNÂ VE BİKE EMSEYNÂ VE BİKE NAHYÂ VE BİKE NEMÛT VE İLEYKE’N-NÜŞÛR” Dua
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the following supplication in the morning:
Arabic: “Allâhümme bike asbahnâ ve bike emseynâ ve bike nahyâ ve bike nemût ve ileyke’n-nüşûr”
Meaning: “O Allah! We have attained morning by Your grace, we reach evening by Your grace. We live by Your will and die by Your will, and to You shall we return.” (Abu Dawud, Adab 101; Tirmidhi, Da’awat 13. See also Ibn Majah, Dua 14)
