The Meaning and Importance of the “Allāhumma Bike Emseynā” Supplication
Supplication (dua, dua [supplication]) is the servant’s confession of their helplessness before the majesty of Allah (Allah / God), and their request for His grace and help with feelings of love and reverence. In its literal sense, it means “to call, to address, to ask, and to seek help”; it generally refers to petitions made from the lesser to the greater, from below to above. The act of supplication is praised in verses (āya, verse) and encouraged in hadith (hadith). For example, in accordance with the command of Allah (Allah / God), “Call upon Him in fear and aspiration.” (al-Aʿrāf, 7:56) and “There is nothing more honorable in the sight of Allah than supplication.” (Tirmidhī, Daʿawāt, 1; Ibn Mājah, Duʿāʾ, 1) are among the hadith that emphasize the importance of supplication.
The Supplication “ALLĀHUMMA BIKE EMSEYNĀ WA BIKE NAḤYĀ WA BIKE NAMŪTU WA ILAYKA’L-MAṢĪR”

The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the following supplication in the evenings:
Recitation: “Allāhumma bike emseynā wa bike naḥyā wa bike namūtu wa ilayka’l-maṣīr”
Meaning: “O Allah! By Your grace we have reached the evening. By Your will we live, by Your will we die. And to You is the final return.” (Abū Dāwūd, Adab 101; Tirmidhī, Daʿawāt 13. See also: Ibn Mājah, Duʿāʾ 14)
