Ashura Day and 10 Types of Provisions: A Hadith
“Whoever generously provides for his family on the day of Ashura, Allah Most High will bestow abundance in his provision throughout the year.”
(Tabarani, Awsat, IX, Kabir, X, 77; Bayhaqi, Shu’ab, III, 366)
Jabir – may Allah be pleased with him – in relation to this narration says:
“We tried it and found (great) blessing.”
Similarly, Ibn Uyayna states:
“We experienced it for fifty years, sixty years.” (Munawi, Fayz al-Qadir, VI, 306)
Regarding the Fast of Ashura Day: A Hadith
“Observe the fast of Ashura; but also observe it one day before or one day after, so as not to resemble the Jews!” (Ahmed, I, 241; Bezzar, no. 1052; Haythami, III, 188)

- Take a purification bath (Gusul)!
- Fast!
- Provide Iftar (breaking of the fast)!
- Give charity and make generous offerings!
- Bring 10 essential items into your home!
- Greet at least 10 people!
