The Meaning of the Duʿāʾ of the Night of Barāʾa:
"In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
O Allah, O Possessor of ihsan (spiritual excellence) and generosity, the One to whom none can show favor, O Possessor of Majesty and Generosity, O One abounding in grace and ihsan, there is no deity but You. You are the Helper of those who seek refuge, the Giver of safety to those who seek protection, the Exalted One in whom those who fear find security.
O Allah! If You have written me in Your presence, in the Umm al-Kitāb (Mother of the Book), as wretched/evil, deprived, expelled, or with constricted provision, O Allah, by Your grace and ihsan, erase my wretchedness, deprivation, expulsion, and constriction of provision, and write me in Your presence, in the Umm al-Kitāb, as a happy/good servant, with abundant provision and as one who is granted success in good deeds. Surely, You have spoken a word in Your Book revealed upon the tongue of Your Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and Your word is true:
"Allah blots out what He wills and confirms (what He wills); and with Him is the Mother of the Book." (al-Raʿd, 39)
O Divine! By Your greatest manifestation, on the blessed night in the middle of Shaʿbān, in which every wise matter is decreed ("On that night is made distinct every precise matter of wisdom" [al-Dukhān, 4]) and every definite decree is decided, avert from us all calamities—those we know, those we do not know, and those You know best. Surely, You are the Most Exalted, the Most Generous. O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our Master Muḥammad, his family, and his Companions (ṣaḥāba)!" (See: ʿAlī al-Muttaqī, no: 5090)
On the fifteenth of the noble month of Shaʿbān, after the Maghrib prayer on the Night of Barāʾa, Sūrat Yā Sīn is recited three times, and at the end of each, this Barāʾa supplication is recited. When reciting after the first Yā Sīn-i Sharīf, it is done with the intention of being among Allah’s saʿīd (happy/blessed) servants. When reciting for the second time, it is with the intention of a long and blessed life. When reciting for the third time, it is with the intention of being safe from calamities and misfortunes and for blessed provision.
On the Night of Barāʾa, after the ʿIshāʾ prayer, one performs one hundred rakʿas of prayer, giving salām after every two rakʿas. In each rakʿa, after Sūrat al-Fātiḥa, Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ is recited ten times. Whoever is unable to recite Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ ten times may recite it five or three times. After completing this prayer, as much salawāt (blessings upon the Prophet) as possible should be recited, and with presence of qalb (the heart), one should perform tawba (repentance) and istighfār (seeking forgiveness), and request and supplicate to Allah, the Exalted, for one’s worldly and otherworldly needs.
