When Muslims gather, they should strive to engage in conversations beneficial for their worldly and afterlife affairs, avoiding all unnecessary words and actions. Upon departure, they seek forgiveness, offer prayers, and supplicate. The Quran teaches us:
رَبِّ اَدْخِلْن۪ي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَاَخْرِجْن۪ي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَلْ ل۪ي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ سُلْطَانًا نَص۪يرًا
“…My Lord! Let me enter a place of truth and safety, and grant me a means of exit a place of truth and safety, and bestow upon me power to sustain myself.” (Surah Isra, 17:80)
A Dua to Recite When Leaving a Gathering
It is also known that the esteemed Sahabah would recite Surah Asr before leaving the gatherings they attended.
Recitation: Bismillâhirrahmanirrahim. Vel asr(i). İnnel insâne le fî husr(husrin). İllâllezîne âmenû ve amilûs sâlihâti ve tevâsav bil hakkı ve tevâsav bis sabr.
Meaning: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By time! Verily mankind is in loss. Except those who believe and do good deeds, and counsel each other with truth and are patient in adversity.”
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever sits in an assembly where much idle talk occurs, and before leaving it recites this supplication, all the shortcomings and sins he committed in that assembly are forgiven, except for violations of people’s rights: ‘O Allah! I absolve You from every imperfection and glorify You with Your praises. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek forgiveness from You and repent to You.’” (Tirmidhi, Du’awat 38)
