Supplication That Can Be Recited When Leaving a Gathering
When Muslims come together, they should, as much as possible, engage in conversations that will benefit their worldly life and the Hereafter, and avoid all kinds of unnecessary words and behaviors. رَبِّ اَدْخِلْن۪ي مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَاَخْرِجْن۪ي مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَاجْعَلْ ل۪ي مِنْ لَدُنْكَ سُلْطَانًا نَص۪يرًا
“My Lord! Cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority.” (al-Isrāʾ, 17:80)
Supplication to Be Recited When Leaving a Gathering
It is also known that the noble Companions (ṣaḥāba) would recite Sūrat al-ʿAṣr before leaving their gatherings.
Recitation: Bismillāhirraḥmānirraḥīm. Wal-ʿaṣr(i). Inna al-insāna la fī khusr(in). Illā alladhīna āmanū wa ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti wa tawāṣaw bil-ḥaqqi wa tawāṣaw bil-ṣabr.
Meaning: “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By the time! Indeed, mankind is in loss, except for those who have iman (faith), do righteous deeds, and enjoin each other to the truth and enjoin each other to sabr (patient endurance)!”
The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever sits in a gathering in which there is much useless and unnecessary talk, and then, upon leaving, recites the following supplication, his mistakes and sins committed in that gathering will be forgiven (except for the rights of others): O Allah! I declare You free from all imperfections and praise You with Your praise. I bear witness that there is no deity but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in tawba (repentance).” (Tirmidhī, Daʿawāt 38)
