Kā’b ibn Ucre’s (r.a.) Salutation
According to the narration of Kā’b ibn Ucre (d. 52/672), one of the esteemed companions, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed his companions to offer this salutation:
TEXT OF THE SALUTATION NARRATED BY KĀ’B B. UCRE (R.A.)
,اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
“O Allah! Send Rahmet and blessings upon Muhammad and his family, as You sent Rahmet and blessings upon Ibrahim (Abraham), and bestow blessings upon Muhammad and his family, as You bestowed blessings upon Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Worthy of all praise and glory!”
Notes Regarding the Salutation
- [1] Kā‘b ibn Ucre (may Allah be pleased with him), a companion from Medina, was present at Bay’atur-Ridwan. Although he was a friend of the great companion Ubada ibn as-Samit, he did not accept Islam. One day, while Ubada was away, he broke his idol. When Kā’b saw this, he became very angry and went directly to Ubada intending to quarrel with him, but reconsidered his actions and assessed the situation. He then visited his friend and embraced Islam. Kā’b ibn Ucre narrated forty-seven hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
