Hadithic Prayers: The Meanings and Recitations of Prayers Recommended by Our Prophet (PBUH)

Du’a (Supplication), is the acknowledgement by a servant of Allah’s majesty and sublimity, expressing love and reverence while seeking His grace and assistance. Our Prophet (PBUH) is the best example for us in living du’a. He frequently supplicated with feelings of humility, saying: “O Allah! I seek refuge in You from Your anger to Your pleasure, from Your punishment to Your forgiveness, and I seek refuge in You from You [again]; for indeed, all good is from You.” (Muslim, Salat, 222), demonstrating a sense of helplessness before the Almighty.

Prayers frequently recited by Our Prophet (PBUH) and recommended in hadith:

Du’a for Remembrance, Gratitude, and Worship

Our Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him- supplicated as follows:

Recitation: “Allahumme einnî ala zikrike wa shukrike wa husni ibadatik”

Meaning: “O Allah! Help me to remember You, to give thanks for Your blessings, and to worship You in the best way.” (Ibn Huzaimah, Dua, No:751; Hakim, No: 1838, I, 499)

Du’a for Righteous Deeds and Sincerity

Our Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him- supplicated as follows:

Recitation: “Allahümme innî es’elüke rahmeten min indike tehdi bihâ kalbi wa tecmau bihâ amri wa telümmü bihâ sha’sî wa tuslihu bihâ gā’ibī wa terfeu bihâ shāhidī wa tüzakki bihâ ‘amalī wa tulhimunī bihâ rüşdī wa taruddü bihâ halfetī wa ta’simunī bihâ min külli sûin.

Allahümme e’dınî îmânen wa yakınen leyse beğdehu küfrun wa rameten enelü bihe sharāfe kerāmatik fi’d-dunya wal ākhirah.”
