The prayers of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), imbued with divine love, show the purest and most beautiful way for a servant to draw closer to Allah.
When it comes to the topic of Divine Love, the pinnacle personality is undoubtedly our Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.
DIVINE LOVE FROM THE TONGUE AND EXAMPLE OF OUR PROPHET
In his supplications, he would request Allah’s love and repeat the plea of David -peace be upon him:
اَللهُمَّ اِنّى۪ اَسْأَلُكَ حُبَّكَ وَحُبَّ مَنْ يُحِبُّكَ وَالْعَمَلَ الَّذ۪ى يُبَلِّغُنى۪ حُبَّكَ اَللهُمَّ اجْعَلْ حُبَّكَ اَحَبَّ اِلَىَّ مِنْ نَفْسى۪ وَاَهْلى۪ وَمِنَ الْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ
“O Allah! I ask You for Your love, the love of those who love You, and the deeds that will lead me to Your love. O Allah! Make Your love more beloved to me than my soul, my family, and cool water.” (Tirmidhi, Du’a 72/3490)
Another supplication of our Prophet on this subject is as follows:
“O Allah! Provide me with Your love and the love of someone whose love benefits You. O Allah! Make the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and those whom I love, a strength for me to perform deeds that You love and are pleased with. O Allah! Let anything you withhold from me be a means for me to preoccupy my mind with what pleases You and completely devote myself to Your obedience.” (Tirmidhi, Du’a 73/3491)
“The lover does not cease mentioning that which he loves, constantly thinking of him.” According to this principle, our Prophet would always be in remembrance of Allah, constantly reflecting on His attributes, manifestations of power and majesty, and the blessings He bestowed upon him, making supplications to his Lord in every movement. Indeed, the various times and places at which he made supplications when entering a place, leaving it, sitting, standing, starting a task, finishing it, reached amounts that the companions could scarcely memorize, leading them to request short and concise prayers from the Prophet.
