Prayers and the Importance of Prayers to be Performed on the Blessed Friday

Friday, the holiday of believers, is one of the most honorable days in Islam. Prayers performed and supplications made on this special day have a privileged place. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“There is an hour on Friday when, if a Muslim supplicates to Allah with devotion, his supplication coincides with that hour, then Allah Almighty grants the wish of that person.” (Nawawi, al-Azkar, 80; Bukhari, Adhan, 61)

PRAYERS AND DEEDS PERFORMED ON FRIDAY

This blessed hour is as short as a finger’s breadth compared to the day. It is hoped that the supplications made during this short time will be accepted. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“Friday is a holiday for believers, a day when their hearts are delighted with worship and remembrance.” (Suyuti, al-Jami’us-Saghir, no: 2519)

It has also been mentioned the virtue of reciting Surah Kahf. Those who recite it are forgiven from one Friday to the next and protected from the tribulation of Dajjal.

“O my Lord! Bless the deeds that my community performs early on Thursday.” (Tirmidhi, Trade, 41)

It is also a significant virtue to pray two rak’ahs and recite Surah Zilzâl on the night between Thursday and Friday.

PRAYERS TO RECITE ON FRIDAY

There are special prayers that can be recited on Fridays. One of them is:

“There is no god but You. O Most Merciful, O Most Generous, O Creator of the heavens and the earth in the most beautiful way, O Possessor of Majesty and generosity!” (Suyuti, al-Jamiu’s-saghir, no: 7450)

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has specified when this blessed hour occurs:

“It is the time between the Asr prayer and sunset.” (Tirmidhi, Friday, 2; Ali al-Muttaqi, no: 21316)

There is also a great virtue in reciting Allah’s praise seventy times after the Friday prayer.

PRAYERS TO RECITE AFTER FRIDAY PRAYER

Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) emphasized the importance of reciting Ihlâs, Felak and Nas surahs after the Friday prayer:

“Whoever recites Ihlâs, Felak and Nâs surahs seven times each without speaking or moving after the Friday prayer, Allah Almighty protects him from harmful things until the next Friday.” (Suyuti, al-Jamiu’s-saghir, no: 8954; Ali al-Muttaqi, II, 648/4985)
