How many Salawat should you send upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) in your prayer? Does more truly bring greater virtue?

Ubayy ibn Ka’b -may Allah be pleased with him- said:

SALAWAT: HOW MUCH SHOULD WE SEND IN PRAYER AND WHAT ARE ITS VIRTUES?

“When the night passed its third, the Messenger of Allah -peace and blessings be upon him- awoke and said:

«O people! Remember Allah! Remember Allah! The first trumpet will be blown, shaking the earth from its foundations. Then the second will come. Death will come with all its severity! Death will come with all its severity!»

I asked the Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him-:

“O Messenger of Allah! I send you many Salawat ash-Sharifa. How much should I do this?”

He said, “As much as you wish.”

I asked, “Would it be appropriate to dedicate a quarter of my supplications to Salawat ash-Sharifa?”

He said, “As much as you wish. But doing more will be beneficial for you.”

I said, “Then let me dedicate half of my supplications to Salawat ash-Sharifa.”

He said, “As much as you wish. But doing more will be even more beneficial for you.” I then asked:

“So is two-thirds sufficient?”

He said, “As much as you want. But increasing it will be far better for you.” Then I said:

“What if I send Salawat ash-Sharifa upon you in all the time I dedicate to supplication?”

He said, “Then Allah will remove all your difficulties and forgive your sins.” (Tirmidhi, Qiyamah, 23/2457)
