The Importance of a Believer’s Supplication for an Absent Brother/Sister
Among the accepted supplications is that of a believer praying for another believer in their absence. This is because the person making the supplication has no benefit or expectation from it. Consequently, they are sincere and heartfelt. Supplications made without any expectation, purely out of concern for one’s Muslim brother/sister and to fulfill their needs, are accepted. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is answered. And when someone makes good wishes for his brother, an angel says to him, ‘May your prayers be answered and may the same be given to you.’” (Muslim, Zikir 87, 88; Ibn Majah, Manasik 5)
“There are two supplications that stand between them and Allah without a veil: The supplication of the oppressed and the supplication of one who prays for his Muslim brother in his absence.” (Heysemi, Adiyya, 17, No: 17231)
“There are two Muslims who meet and shake hands, so Allah accepts their prayers and forgives them while their hands are still clasped.” (Abu Ya’la, Zikir wa Dua, No: 4139)
These hadiths encourage believers to pray for one another both in person and in absentia, and they announce that these supplications will be accepted.
