Are there repentance prayers taught by our Prophet? Which supplications should be recited in repentance? Prayers to recite when repenting.
It is part of the etiquette of repentance for someone intending to repent to offer praise (hamd) to Allah, send blessings and peace upon His Messenger, and then seek forgiveness (istighfar), followed by salutations and praise.
Repentance & Forgiveness Supplications from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
Two of the many supplications that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made for forgiveness are:
“O Allah! Indeed, I have wronged myself greatly, and there is none who can forgive sins except You. So forgive me with a forgiveness from Your side, and have mercy on me. Indeed, you are the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (Bukhari, Azan 149; Muslim, Zikr, 48)
“O Lord! Forgive my sins, my ignorance, and my excessiveness in all matters. And what You know of it is more than I know. O Allah! Forgive my sins, my intentional acts, my ignorance, and my jesting. All this is with me. O Allah! Forgive me for that which I have done before and will do afterward, and that which I concealed and revealed. You are the one who brings forward, and You are the one who delays, and you are over all things capable.” (Bukhari, Adab 60)
