The Most Virtuous Dhikr and Supplications: Ways to Draw Closer to Allah
Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the virtue of dhikr (remembrance of Allah), supplication, and beautiful words. In this article, we will examine the most virtuous dhikr, prayers, and sayings reported by our Prophet.
The Most Virtuous Dhikr
Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The most virtuous dhikr is;
لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ
‘Lâ ilâhe illallah (There is no god but Allah)’ saying;
and the most virtuous supplication is,
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ
‘Elhamdülillâh’ (All praise belongs to Allah)’ saying.” (Tirmidhi, Du’a, 9)
The Most Virtuous Dua
Again, our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in another hadith:
“The most virtuous supplication is the one made on the Day of Arafah. The most excellent words that I and the prophets before me have said are;
لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ، وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْئٍ قَدِيرٌ
‘Lâ ilâhe illallâhu vahdehû lâ şerîke leh, lehü’l-mülkü ve lehü’l-hamdü wa huwa ‘alâ külli şey’in kadîr.’
‘There is no god but Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, sovereignty belongs to Him, praise be to Him, and He is capable of all things.’.” (Tirmidhi, Du’a, 126)
