A Didactic Book of Morality
The Pendnama (Book of Counsel) is a Persian verse work attributed to Attar (though his authorship remains somewhat uncertain, it is nonetheless known by his name). For centuries, it has been used as a textbook in madrasas to teach children morality and the Persian language.
Islamic Social Norms
The work explores fundamental Islamic and human virtues such as hospitality, generosity, respect for elders, discretion, and avoidance of gossip through concise and memorable couplets. Rather than delving into the profound philosophy of Sufism, it prioritizes practical moral precepts needed in the daily life of society.
