The Prayers of Prophet Ibrahim (as)
Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), one of the prophets whose prayers are most frequently recounted in the Holy Quran, supplicated to the Exalted Lord at every opportunity. These supplications are important verses that demonstrate his humility and closeness.
PRAYERS OF PROPHET IBRAHIM (as.)
Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) loved his children greatly, yet Allah bestowed offspring upon him in old age rather than youth. With this joyous news came prayers that deepened his devotion.
“O my Lord! Grant me a righteous child.” (Surah Saffat, 100) The prayer with which Prophet Ibrahim was given the glad tidings of Ismail (peace be upon him), reflected both his gratitude and hope.
Prophet Ibrahim’s Prayers in Mecca
When Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) left his wife, Lady Hajar, and his son, Ismail (peace be upon him), in Mecca and continued on his way, he turned towards the Kaaba from Mount Safa and offered prayers:
“My Lord! Make this city (Mecca) safe, and keep me and my offspring free from worshipping idols. Indeed, they have led many people astray, O our Lord. Now whoever follows me, he is of me; and whoever disobeys, then surely you are the Forgiving, the Most Merciful.” “O our Lord! Our Lord! Make us submit to You, and bring forth from our descendants a community that submits to You. And make for us landmarks of devotion in this city (Mecca), and cause them to come from all sides; and guide them, and let them return (to You). And grant us mercy, for you are the Best of those who give.” (Surah Ibrahim, 35-37)
Prayers During the Construction of the Kaaba
Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his son, Ismail (peace be upon him), repeated this prayer as they raised the foundations while constructing the Kaaba:
“Our Lord! Accept from us!”
Prayer of Submission and Community
After the construction of the Kaaba was completed, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) expressed his submission to Allah in prayer:
“Our Lord! Make us both submitting Muslims. And from our offspring, a community that submits to You. Our Lord! Accept our repentance. You are indeed the Accepting of repentance and the Merciful.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 128)

“Indeed, Allah knows what you conceal and what you reveal. And Allah knows all that is in the earth and in the heavens.” (Surah Ibrahim, 38)
“All praise be to Allah who has granted me, in old age, Ismail and Isaac! Indeed, my Lord is Hearing of supplication.”(Surah Ibrahim, 39)
“My Lord! Make me one who establishes prayer, and from my descendants. Our Lord! Accept my repentance.”(Surah Ibrahim, 40)
“Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and all believers on the Day of Reckoning!” (Surah Ibrahim, 41)
Prayers in Surah Shu’ara
Surah Shu’ara contains the following supplications that overflowed from Prophet Ibrahim’s heart:
“My Lord! Grant me wisdom and join me with the righteous. And grant me a good name among later generations. And make me an heir of Paradise-Naim. And forgive my father, for he was among those who went astray. And do not disgrace me on the Day of Resurrection! The day when neither wealth nor son will be beneficial. Except for one who comes to Allah with a pure heart.”(Surah Shu’ara, 83-89)
