Sheikh Abdullah Sert explains how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed Enes bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) through a prayer, bringing abundance and blessing to his life.
This prayer made by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the life of Enes b. Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) represented great goodness and blessing for him.
The Prophet’s (PBUH) Prayer for Enes bin Malik (RA)
Enes ibn Malik’s mother, Ummu Suleym, said to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him):
“O Messenger of Allah! My son Enes is your servant. Pray for him!”
Upon this, the Messenger of Allah made the following supplication:
“O Allah! Give Enes much wealth and offspring, and bless them for him.” (Bukhari, Savm 61, no. 1982; Muslim, Masajid 268, no. 660)
Enes ibn Malik’s Account
Enes ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this event as follows: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to visit us to see my mother, Ummu Suleym. My mother offered him oil and dates. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Put your oil in the gourd and your dates in the container; I am fasting.” Then he went to a corner of the house and performed voluntary prayers. We stood behind him and prayed with him.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made supplication for Ummu Suleym and her family. My mother said:
“O Messenger of Allah! Pray also for my date seed!”
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, “Who is your date seed?”
She replied, “It is your servant Enes.” Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed that I would possess all the good fortune in this world and the Hereafter, and said:
“O Allah! Give Enes much wealth and offspring, and bless them for him.” (Bukhari, Daawat 19, no. 6334; Muslim, Fadail al-Sahaba 141, no. 2480; Ahmed ibn Hanbal, Musnad, III, 188)
Enes continued his account saying: “Today I am the wealthiest of the Muslims of Medina. My eldest daughter, Umayya, says that until the time when Hajjaj came to Basra (75/694), more than 120 of my children had died.” (Bukhari, Daawat 19, no. 6334; Muslim, Fadail al-Sahaba 141, no. 2480; Ahmed ibn Hanbal, Musnad, III, 188)
Narration of a Tabi’i Scholar
According to the narration of Ikrimah (d. 105/723), a Tabi’i interpreter, Enes ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“By Allah, I have much wealth. Today I have more than 100 sons and grandsons.” (Muslim, Fadail al-Sahaba 143, no. 2481)
Another Narration
According to another narration, Enes ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“Today I do not know of anyone who has attained the ease and opportunity that I have. I buried 100 of my children with these two hands. My stillborn children and grandchildren are not included in this number.” (Tabarani, al-Mu’jam al-Kabir (Salafi), XXV, 123, no. 300)
