The Prophet’s (PBUH) Night Worship and Prayers

Hazrat Aisha (RA) reported that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would rise for night prayer, he would repeat the following remembrances ten times:

The Prophet’s Nightly Remembrances

  • “Allahu Akbar”
  • “Alhamdulillah”
  • “SubhanAllah wa bihamdih”
  • “Subhana al-Maliki al-Quddus”
  • “Astaghfirullah”
  • “La ilaha illallah”

After repeating these remembrances, he would then recite the following supplication ten times:

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ ضِيقِ الدُّنْيَا وَضِيقِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of this world and the distress of the Day of Resurrection.” (Abu Dawud, Adab, 101/5085)

Meaning of the Supplication

This supplication expresses a profound humility before Allah and a desire for protection from hardships. The Prophet’s (ﷺ) prayer serves as an example for us.
