The Salawat Narrated by Abu Sa’id al-Hudri (R.A.)
Abu Sa’id al-Hudri (R.A.), one of the seven narrators of many hadith, recited a blessed salawat from our Prophet (PBUH) that is an important supplication frequently included in our prayers. Let us examine the meaning and significance of this salawat more closely.
THE SALAWAT NARRATED BY ABU SA’ID AL-HUDRI (R.A.)
According to the narration of Abu Sa’id al-Hudri (R.A.), the salawat begins as follows:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ
“O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger (PBUH),” begins with the phrase “kama salleyte”.
Let’s Examine the Complete Salawat
The complete narration of Abu Sa’id al-Hudri (R.A.) is as follows:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا باَرَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَاٰلِ
“O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger (PBUH), as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim (A.S.), and bestow blessings upon Muhammad, and upon the family of Muhammad, as You bestowed blessings upon Ibrahim and his family.”1
