The Salawat Narrated by Abu Sa’id al-Hudri (R.A.)
Abu Sa’id al-Hudri (r.a.), one of the seven narrators of numerous hadith, has transmitted a salawat sharifa (blessed supplication) taught by our Prophet (s.a.w.). This valuable prayer frequently appears in our supplications. Let us examine its meaning and virtues.
THE SALAWAT NARRATED BY ABU SA’ID AL-HUDRÎ (R.A.)
According to the narration of Abu Sa’id al-Hudri radıyallahu anh, the salawat begins as follows:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ
“O Allah! Send Rahma (blessings) upon Muhammad, Your slave and Messenger (peace be upon him),” begins and continues with the phrase “kama salleyte.”

The complete narration of Abu Sa’id al-Hudri radıyallahu anh is as follows:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا باَرَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَاٰلِ
“O Allah! Send Rahma (blessings) upon Muhammad, Your slave and Messenger (peace be upon him), as You sent Rahma (blessings) upon Ibrahim (a.s.), and bestow blessings upon Muhammad, and upon the family of Muhammad, as You bestowed blessings upon Ibrahim and his family.”1
