The Salutation Narrated by Ukbe b. Amir
According to Ukbe ibn Amir (d. 40/660), a Companion of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, the salutation is as follows:
THE SALUTATION NARRATED BY UKBE B. AMIR
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَى اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
“O Allah! Send blessings upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and upon his family.”
Who was Ukbe b. Amir?
Ukbe b. Amir (r.a.) was a shepherd before embracing Islam. He joined the Suffe companions during the time of the Prophet, deepened his religious knowledge, participated in various battles, undertook Zakat collection duties, and took part in conquests. He served as Governor of Egypt during the reign of Hz. Muawiyah and participated in the siege of Istanbul. Ukbe, known for his proficiency in recitation (Qiraat), jurisprudence (Fiqh), inheritance laws (Faraiz) and literature, was one of the scribes of the Prophet and wrote a copy of the Quran in his own handwriting. Ukbe, whose narrations are included in the Six Major Hadith Collections (Kutub-i Sitte), holds an important position among hadith authorities, especially in Egypt. (DİA)
