Allah the Exalted says:
“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr). And what can make you know what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit (al-Rūḥ, i.e., Gabriel) descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (al-Qadr, 1-5)
The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“There is a night in Ramadan which is better than a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its goodness is truly deprived of a great fortune.” (Nasā’ī, Ṣiyām, 5; Aḥmad, II, 230, 385, 425)
THE IMPORTANCE AND VIRTUE OF THE NIGHT OF POWER (LAYLAT AL-QADR)
The Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr) is an exceptional night of grace that the Lord has bestowed upon the ummah of Muḥammad out of His infinite mercy. On this night, countless spiritual treasures are granted. Due to the grandeur and majesty of this night, a distinct surah was revealed about it.
The Night of Power was illuminated by the revelation of the Noble Qur’an within it, and was spiritualized by the participation of Gabriel and other angels. This night, in which believers are greeted by unseen luminous beings, is a night of grace filled with spiritual abundance and blessings, a night of mercy from the Lord to His servants, and a springtime within the month of Ramadan. The Night of Power is the night on which the Qur’an was sent down in its entirety from the Preserved Tablet (Lawḥ al-Maḥfūẓ) to the lowest heaven. Gabriel brought the first revelation to our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on this night. The Night of Power means the night of decree. It refers to the night in which matters decreed in the Divine Ordainment and decisive commands are distinguished. By decree is meant the manifestation of the eternal judgment and the resolution of wise matters. The Night of Power is the acceptance of the supplication the Prophet made for his ummah.
Just as Allah the Exalted has concealed the appointed time of death within a person’s lifespan, His friends (awliyāʾ) among people, and the Greatest Name (ism al-aʿẓam) among the Beautiful Names (al-asmāʾ al-ḥusnā), likewise He has hidden the hour of acceptance within Friday, the middle prayer (ṣalāt al-wusṭā) among the five daily prayers, Divine pleasure among all acts of worship, the Resurrection within time, death within life, and the Night of Power within Ramadan, so that “every night may be [regarded as] the Night of Power, and every visitor as [if] al-Khiḍr.” (Prof. Dr. İrfan Gündüz / Towards the Climate of Perfection… / Altınoluk Magazine, June 2016)
