The Dua Recommended by Our Prophet (PBUH) to be Recited for Protection from the Punishment of the Grave and Hell
Bearing the punishment of the grave (Kabr Azabi) and hell is unbearable. Therefore, Our Prophet (PBUH) -peace and blessings be upon him- frequently recited this supplication and advised his Ummah to do so as well:
“O Lord! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, the punishment of Hell, the calamities of life and death, and the tribulation of the blind Dajjal (Antichrist)!” (Bukhari, Janaiz, 88; Muslim, Masajid, 128-134)
By reciting this dua, one should avoid all kinds of reprehensible behaviors that invite divine wrath, falling into selfish and devilish desires, prohibitions (haram), abominations (makruh), heedlessness (gaflet), and disobedience (isyana) – as if avoiding fire. It is necessary to seek refuge in the mercy of Allah.
