The word ‘child’ in the dictionary means “the name given to a human being until they reach adulthood, a human infant”. Every parent’s greatest desire is for their child to be a righteous offspring.
The word ‘child’ appears in several verses of the Holy Quran, and these verses remind us how great a blessing it is to have children and our responsibilities towards them.
PRAYERS AND VERSES TO RAISE A RIGHTEOUS CHILD
“Our Lord, make us both submitting to You and bring forth from our progeny a community that submits [to You]. And let them perform Hajj and Umrah to Your House. And accept our repentance, for You are the Accepting of Repentance and the Merciful.” (Surah Al-Baqarah / Verse 128) This prayer asks for our lineage to also be in faith.

“Our Lord, send among them a messenger from among them who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted and Wise.” (Surah Al-Baqarah / Verse 129) In this verse, we also ask Allah to guide people through prophets.

There, Zakariyya supplicated to his Lord: “My Lord, grant me from Your grace a righteous offspring. Indeed, You are the Best of those who grant.” (Surah Aal-Imran / Verse 38) Zakariyya’s peace be upon him prayer serves as an example for us.

Zakariyya said: “My Lord, then grant me a sign to be certain of what you have promised.” He said: “Your sign will be that you cannot speak to people for three days except through signs. And remember your Lord much and glorify Him.” (Surah Aal-Imran / Verse 41) We must also not forget the feelings of patience and gratitude.

Allah created you from a single soul, and He made for him a wife from his own kind so that they may incline toward one another. From these two, male and female, springs forth the human race. And know that men are inclined to their wives and produce offspring. When a pregnant woman feels the burden, she and her husband turn to their Lord, saying: “If You grant us a child who is sound in body and mind, we will surely be among those grateful.” (Surah Al-A’raf / Verse 189) It is our natural right to desire a healthy offspring.

“My Lord, make me and my progeny [among] those who establish prayer, and accept my repentance, for You are the Accepting of Repentance and the Merciful.” (Surah Ibrahim / Verse 40) As well as being a good example to our children, we should also wish for them to turn to Allah.

They say: “Our Lord, grant us righteous spouses and offspring.” (Surah Al-Furqan / Verse 74) We must desire that our entire family be composed of pious and faithful individuals.

We have certainly enjoined upon man [to be] kind to his parents. For they bore him on their backs, and carried him under their arms. The child remains in the womb for thirty months. Then he reaches maturity at forty years. And he says: “My Lord, grant me inspiration so that I may give thanks for the favor You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous deeds that please You, and include me among the righteous.” (Surah Al-Ahkaf / Verse 15) Showing respect to parents is a command of Allah.
