Prayers to be Recited During Ablution

Ablution (Wudu) is one of the purification rituals ordained as obligatory in Islam. As a prerequisite for every act of worship, ablution holds great significance not only in its performance but also in the prayers recited during it. The prayers recited during ablution cleanse the heart and increase the blessings within the ablution. Knowing and reciting these prayers is a beautiful deed that all Muslims can benefit from.

Prayers to be Recited During Ablution

The following are the prayers it is recommended (mustahabb) to recite during ablution:

  1. At the Beginning of Ablution: After beginning with “Euzu” and reciting the Basmala, the following prayer is recited:

    اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ الْمَاءَ طَهُوراً وَجَعَلَ اْلإِسْلاَمَ نُوراً

    Recitation: el-Hamdü lillâhillezî ceale’l-mâe tahûren ve ceale’l-islâme nûrâ.

    Meaning: “All praise is due to Allah, who made water a purifier and Islam a light.”

  2. While Taking Water into the Mouth:

    اَللّهُمَّ اسْقِنِي مِنْ حَوْضِ نَبِيِّكَ كَأْساً لاَ أَظْمَأُ بَعْدَهُ أَبَداً

    Recitation: Allâhümme’skınî min havzi nebiyyike ke’sen lâ ezmeu ba’dehu ebedâ.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Grant me a cup from the pool of Your Prophet, so that I may never be thirsty after it.”

  3. While Taking Water into the Nose:

    اَللّهُمَّ لَا تَحْرِمْنِي رَائِحَةَ نَعِيمِكَ وَجَنَّاتِكَ

    Recitation: Allâhümme lâ tahrimnî râyihate naîmike ve cennâtik.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Do not deprive me of the fragrance of Your bliss and gardens.”

  4. While Washing the Face:

    اَللّهُمَّ بَيِّضْ وَجْهِي بِنُورِكَ يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهُ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهُ

    Recitation: Allâhümme beyyid vechî binûrike yevme tebyeddu vucûhun wa tesveddu vucûh.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Make my face radiant with Your light on the Day when faces will be brightened and blackened.”

  5. While Washing the Right Arm:

    اَللّهُمَّ أَعْطِنِي كِتَابِي بِيَمِينِي وَحَاسِبْنِي حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا

    Recitation: Allâhümme a’tinî kitabî biyeminî wa hâsibnî hisâben yesîrâ.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Give me my book with my right hand and reckon me with an easy reckoning.”

  6. While Washing the Left Arm:

    اَللّهُمَّ لاَ تُعْطِ كِتَابِي بِشِمَالِي وَلاَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ ظَهْرِي وَلاَ تُحَاسِبْنِي حِسَابًا شَدِيدًا

    Recitation: Allâhümme lâ tü’ti kitabî bišimalî wa lā min warâi zahrî wa lā tuhasibnî hisaben şedîdâ.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Do not give me my book with my left hand or from behind my back, and do not reckon me with a severe reckoning.”

  7. While Performing Masah on the Head:

    اَللّهُمَّ غَشِّني بِرَحْمَتِكَ وَاَنْزِلْ عَلَىَّ مِنْ بَرَكاتِكَ

    Recitation: Allâhümme ğaššinî birahmetike wa enzil aleyye min berakâtik.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Cover me with Your mercy and bestow blessings upon me.”

  8. While Performing Masah on the Ears:

    اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي مِنَ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقَوْلَ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُ

    Recitation: Allâhümmec’alnî minellezîne yestemiûne’l-kavle fe yettebiûne ahseneh.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Make me among those who listen to the word and follow its best.”

  9. While Masah on the Neck:

    اَللّهُمَّ أَعْطِقْ رَقَبَتِي مِنَ النَّارِ

    Recitation: Allâhümme a’tık rekabetî minannâr.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Free my neck from the Fire.”

  10. While Washing the Feet:

    اَللّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْ قَدَمَيَّ عَلَى الصِّرَاطِ يَوْمَ تَزِلُّ فِيهِ اْلأَقْدَامُ

    Recitation: Allâhümme sebbit kademeyye alessirâti yevme tezillü fihi’l-akdâm.

    Meaning: “O Allah! Firm my feet on the Straight Path on the Day when feet slip.”
