“Allāhummaghfir lī hatī’atī wa jah lī…” – What is the Purpose of this Dua?
Our Prophet, Rasūlullah –ṣallāllāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam– (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this important supplication to purify ourselves from our errors and seek refuge in Allah. Here’s the Arabic recitation, Turkish meaning (translated to English), and virtues of the “Allāhummaghfir lī hatī’atī wa jah lī…” dua:
Arabic Recitation
“Allāhummaghfir lī hatī’atī wa jah lī wa isrâfî fī amrī wa mā anta a‘lamu bihī minnī. Allāhummaghfir lī jiddī wa hazlī, wa hata’ī wa amdī wa küllü zālika indī. Allāhummaghfir lī mā qaddamtü wa mā ahhartü, wa mā asrartü wa mā a‘lentü, wa mā anta a‘lamu bihî minnī, ante’l-mukaddimü wa ante’l-muahhir, wa ente alā külli shay’in kadīr.”
Meaning
“O Allah! Forgive my sins, what I did due to ignorance, the faults I committed exceeding my limits, and all those offenses You know better than I do. O Allah! Forgive my serious and playful actions, my unintentional and intentional sins. I confess that all these shortcomings are within me. O Allah! Forgive the sins I have done so far, what I will do in the future, what I concealed and revealed, what I committed immeasurably, and what You know better than I do. You are the one who brings forward, and You are the one who leaves behind. Your power is sufficient for all things.” (Bukhari, Da’awat 60; Muslim, Zikr 70)
Virtues of the Dua
This dua is an important supplication that our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) frequently recited and taught us. It is recommended to recite it for forgiveness of sins, protection from ignorance, and gaining Allah’s pleasure.
