According to narration from Şeddad bin Evs (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The most superior supplication is when a servant says this prayer:”
Arabic, Recitation, and Meaning
Arabic Text:
Allâhümme ente Rabbî lâ ilâhe illâ ente halaktenî ve ene abdüke. Vâne alâ ahdike ve vâ’dike mesteda’tü. Eûzü bike min şerri mâ sana’tü. Ebû ü leke bi-ni’metike aleyye, ve ebû ü bi zenbî fağfirlî fe innehû lâ yağfiruz-zünûbe illâ ente.
Recitation: “Allâhümme ente Rabbî lâ ilâhe illâ ente halaktenî ve ene abdüke, wa ane alâ ahdike wa wā’dika mastadī’tu. A’ūzu bika min sharri mā sana’tu. Abū’u laka bi-ni’matik ‘alayya wa abū’u bi dhanbī faghfir lī fe innahu lā yaghfiru az-zunūba illā anta.”
Meaning: «O Allah! You are my Lord. There is no god worthy of worship except You. You created me, and I am Your servant. I remain steadfast to the promise and covenant I made with You as much as I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge your blessings upon me with gratitude in Your majestic presence, and I confess my sin. Forgive me, for surely no one forgives sins except You.»
The Virtue of the Prayer
Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informs us about the virtue of this valuable prayer as follows:
“Whoever recites this Seyyidü’l İstigfar with complete heart believing in its reward and virtue, and dies before sunset on that day, he will enter Paradise. Similarly, whoever recites it at night with a sincere belief in its reward and virtue, and dies before sunrise, he will enter Paradise.” (Bukhari, Du’a 2, 16; Abu Dawud, Adab 100-101)
