What is the “Allâhümme innī es’aluka mucibāti” prayer for?

Our Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him- made the following supplication:

Recitation: Allâhümme innī as’aluka mucibāti rahmetike wa azâime mağfiretike wa’s-selâmete min külli ismin wa’l-ganîmete min külli birrin wa’l-fevze bi’l-cenneti wa’n-necâte mine’n-nâr.

Meaning: “O Allah! I beseech You for what brings about Your mercy, secures Your forgiveness, protects me from every sin, grants me abundance of all good deeds, enables me to attain Paradise and deliver me from the Fire.” (Hakim, al-Mustadrak, I, 525. Also see Tirmidhi, Vitr 17)
