Allahümme İnni Es’elüke Dua: The Hidden Treasure Encompassing All Prayers

This article explores the Arabic recitation, meaning, and virtues of the “Allahümme inni es’elüke min hayri ma seeleke…” prayer, which is described in hadith as a comprehensive dua encompassing all prayers.

It is narrated by Abu Umama (may Allah be pleased with him):

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited many supplications, but the companions found it difficult to memorize them completely. Upon presenting this situation to the Prophet (PBUH), Hz. Abu Umama (RA) said:

– O Messenger of Allah! You recite so many prayers, and we find it difficult to memorize them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) replied:

“Should I teach you a supplication that encompasses all prayers? Say:

Recitation: Allâhümme innî es’elüke min hayri mâ seeleka minhü nebiyyüke Muhammedün sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem. Wa neûzü bike min şerri mesteâzeke minhü nebiyyüke Muhammedün sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem. Wa ente’l–müsteân, wa aleyke’l–belâğ, wa lâ havle velâ kuvvete illâ billâh”

Meaning: “O Allah! May we attain what Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated you for of good things. And we seek refuge in You from the evils that Your Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought refuge in You from. Help is only expected from You, and success in every endeavor is possible with You. Freedom from sin and the strength to perform worship can only be obtained through Your help.” (Tirmidhi, Da’awat 89)
