Supplications to Be Recited for Eye Pain and for the Illumination of the Eye
Eye pain is a common ailment that can negatively affect our daily lives. However, in Islam, there are supplications (dua) that can be recited with the intention of healing for eye health. Here are the supplications recited for eye pain and for the illumination of the eye:
Supplication to Be Recited at the Time of the Morning Prayer
Every day, between the obligatory and the sunnah prayers of the morning prayer, hold your forehead with your right hand and recite the following supplication fifteen times:
Arabic: Rabbenâ etmim lenâ nûranâ vaġfir lenâ(s) inneke ‘alâ kulli şey-in kadîr(un).
Turkish Pronunciation: Rabbenâ etmim lenâ nûranâ vaġfir lenâ(s) inneke ‘alâ kulli şey-in kadîr(un).
Meaning: Our Lord! Perfect our light for us and forgive us; surely You have power over all things. (al-Tahrīm, 8)
At each recitation, repeat the following supplications:
Arabic: Yā Nūr, yā Basīr! Yā Nūr, yā Basīr!
Turkish Pronunciation: Yā Nūr, yā Basīr! Yā Nūr, yā Basīr!
Meaning: O Illuminator of the worlds; O All-Seeing, All-Watching!
Also, recite the following supplication five times:
Arabic: Yā rabbī qavvī basarī allāhumma ishfi anta’sh-shāfī allāhumma ‘āfī anta’l-mu‘āfī.
Turkish Pronunciation: Yā rabbī qavvī basarī allāhumma ishfi anta’sh-shāfī allāhumma ‘āfī anta’l-mu‘āfī.
Meaning: O my Lord, strengthen my sight; O Allah, grant healing, You are the Healer; O Allah, grant well-being, You are the Bestower of well-being!
By reciting these supplications, by the permission of Allah the Exalted, the person's eyes will not ache, and if there is any illness in the eyes, it will be healed.
Recitation of Sūrat al-Ḥadīd and Sūrat al-Ḥashr
A person whose eyes ache or who has become unable to see due to illness should raise their hands and, after reciting the first four verses (āyāt) of Sūrat al-Ḥadīd and the last three verses of Sūrat al-Ḥashr, then recite:
Arabic: Allāhumma’sh-fi anta’sh-shāfī allāhumma ‘āfī anta’l-mu‘āfī.
Turkish Pronunciation: Allāhumma’sh-fi anta’sh-shāfī allāhumma ‘āfī anta’l-mu‘āfī.
Meaning: O Allah, grant healing, You are the Healer; O Allah, grant well-being, You are the Bestower of well-being!
If one repeats this supplication while wiping over the eyes, Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, will remove the illness from the eyes and grant healing, and by the permission of Allah the Exalted, will increase the light of the eye.
Recitation of a Qur'anic Verse
Every morning, whoever recites the following verse seven times over the thumbnails of both thumbs and then wipes over their eyes, by the permission of Allah the Exalted, the light of their sight will increase and no pain or harm will befall their eyes:
Arabic: Fakaşafnā ‘anka ġitā’aka fabasaruka’l-yawma ḥadīd(un).
Turkish Pronunciation: Fakaşafnā ‘anka ġitā’aka fabasaruka’l-yawma ḥadīd(un).
Meaning: ...But We have removed from you your covering, so your sight, this Day, is sharp. (Qāf, 22)
May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Master Muḥammad, his family, and his Companions (ṣaḥāba)! (Wa ṣallallāhu ‘alā sayyidinā Muḥammadin wa ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallam.)
