Dua to Recite Upon Waking Up During the Night
Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has recommended a significant supplication to recite when one awakens during sleep. This prayer is a valuable act of worship that beautifies our tongue and seeks the pleasure of our Lord.
The Recitation and Meaning of the Dua
Our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever wakes up during sleep and says:
Recitation: “Lâ ilâhe illallâhu wahdehû lâ şerîke leh, lehü’l mülkü ve lehü’l hamdü ve hüve alâ külli şeyin kadîr. Elhamdülillâhi wa sübhânallâhi wa lâ ilâhe illallâhu vallâhu ekber wa lâ havle wa lâ kuvvete illâ billah.”
Meaning: “There is no god but Allah, alone, He has no partner. His is the dominion and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things powerful. I thank Allah, and I glorify Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the greatest, and there is neither power nor strength except in Allah.” then says, “O my Lord, forgive me,” or makes supplication, it will be answered; and if he performs ablution, his prayer will be accepted. (Bukhari, Tahajjud, 21)
The Virtues of the Dua
The virtue of this supplication is great. Seeking forgiveness from Allah and intending to pray after performing ablution increases the blessings of the night and brings peace to the heart.
