Escaping Between Two Hands and Turning Towards Mevlâ
In a person’s spiritual journey, the goal should not be limited to escaping hell and entering paradise (the afterlife), but rather to find "Mevlâ’s Essence" directly. Abdülkadir Geylânî (q.s.) describes this unique station of transcendence as follows: "Take the world in one hand, and the Hereafter in the other. Bring them together. Place them somewhere. Escape from between them. Turn towards Mevlâna. Turn to Haqq alone.". When a dervish releases worldly possessions and pleasures, as well as the houris and mansions of the afterlife, from his heart and lets them slip through his hands, what remains is only being face-to-face with the absolute and eternal Creator. True tawhid (oneness of God) is to hold the Creator above all creation.
Distributing Shares to Their Rightful Owners
The servant who turns towards Mevlâ and detaches himself from everything other than Him, then delivers what he has relinquished in the most just manner to where it rightfully belongs. "Give the world to your nafs (self). Place the Hereafter in your heart, and keep Mevlâyı in your secret.". Legitimate worldly needs are given only to the body (nafs) so that it can find strength for worship; the beauties of the afterlife remain as a hope in the heart. However, the essence of man, his deepest being, his "secret", is dedicated exclusively and entirely to Allah.
Reaching an Infinite Treasure
The believer whose secret is filled with Allah and who has no other desire than Him becomes the freest and richest person on earth. "The moment you can do this, you will reach the inexhaustible treasure, that’s what they call the infinite treasure… When you reach there, death becomes impossible for you.". Those who set aside their transient desires and aim directly for the Eternal (Baki) have already stepped into the land of eternity (beka) while still in this world and are completely freed from the servitude of false gods.
