How Our Prophet (saw) Will Recognize His Ummah in the Hereafter
It is narrated that a person who was not morally refined by the character of our Noble Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him- saw the Master of the Worlds in a dream one day. This dream contains an important message for understanding one’s responsibilities in the hereafter and their relationship with Our Prophet (saw).
How Our Prophet (saw) Will Recognize His Ummah in the Hereafter
The Messenger of Allah showed no regard or interest towards him. He asked, sadly:
“–O Rasûlullah! Are you displeased with me?”
“–No!”
“–Then why do you treat me with indifference?”
“–I don’t know you!”
This response demonstrates that a person’s identity in the hereafter is dependent on their conduct in this world. The person who saw Our Prophet in his dream, asked with astonishment:
“–How can that be, O Rasûlullah? I am one of your Ummah. Scholars say you know the individuals of your Ummah better than a mother knows her children…”
“It is true! However, I do not see any sign of my beautiful character upon you. Furthermore, no salutations and blessings have reached me from you. Know that I recognize someone from my Ummah to the extent they embody my character.”
This honorable hadith emphasizes the importance of possessing good morals and connecting with Him through salât (peace and blessings) for Our Prophet (saw) to be able to recognize his Ummah in the hereafter. Virtuous character is considered as the most important indicator of faith.
The believer awoke from sleep with great sorrow, repented for his former state, and embodied the virtuous character of our Noble Prophet. He devoted himself to abundant salawat (blessings upon the Prophet). After a while, he saw Our Rasûl again in his dream. This time, Our Prophet -peace and blessings be upon him- said to him:
“–Now I recognize you and will intercede for you…”
