According to a narration from Anes bin Malik (RA), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Dua is the essence of servitude.” (Tirmidhi, Duawāt, 1/3371)

It is narrated that Fadala bin Ubayd (RA) said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man supplicating to Allah in his prayer without praising Allah and sending salutations upon the Prophet. Upon this, he said:
“This person has hurried!” Then he called the man and said to him – or to another –:
“Whenever any of you performs prayer, let him praise his Lord and offer salutations upon the Prophet, then let him supplicate as he pleases.” (Abu Dawud, Witir, 23/1481)
