The Benefits of the Supplication
Our Prophet (peace be upon him) advised Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) to recite this supplication after every prayer…
THE SUPPLICATION TAUGHT BY OUR PROPHET TO HZ. MUADH
The Messenger of Allah –peace and blessings be upon him– one day held the hand of Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) and said:
THE SUPPLICATION TAUGHT BY OUR PROPHET TO HZ. MUADH
“–O Mu’adh! I swear by Allah, I truly love you.” Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
“–May my mother and father be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! I too love you very much!” Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed him as follows:
“–O Mu’adh! I advise you not to cease reciting this supplication after every prayer: «Allahumma-’asistani ‘ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa ‘ibadatika niyamatan.» (O Allah, assist me in remembering You, thanking You, and worshipping You properly.)” (Ahmed, V, 244-245; Abu Dawud, Witir, 26; Nasa’i, Sehwa, 60; Tirmidhi, Zuhd, 30)
What a beautiful manifestation of affection! The Messenger of Allah loves his brother in faith, Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him), and as a sign of this love, he offers advice that a believing brother can benefit from.
