The Meaning of the Supplication

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) advised Mu’adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) to recite this supplication after every prayer…

THE SUPPLICATION TAUGHT BY OUR PROPHET TO HZ. MUADH

Rasulullah (peace and blessings be upon him), one day holding Mu’adh’s (may Allah be pleased with him) hand, said:

“–O Mu’adh! I swear by Allah that I truly love you.” Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) replied:

“–May my mother and father be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! I too love you very much!” Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:

“–O Mu’adh! I advise you never to cease reciting this supplication after every prayer: «O Allah! Grant me assistance in remembering You, giving thanks to You, and worshipping You in the best way!» (Ahmed, V, 244-245; Abu Dawud, Witir, 26; Nasa’i, Sehwa, 60; Tirmidhi, Zuhd, 30)

What a beautiful manifestation of affection! The Messenger of Allah loves his brother in faith, and as a sign of this love, he gives advice that will benefit his believing brother.
