The Prayer the Prophet (peace be upon him) Recommended During Windy Weather

According to the narration of Lady Aisha (r.a.), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would become anxious and his face would change color when a strong wind blew and he saw a black cloud in the sky. Sometimes he would stare at that cloud, sometimes turn back, enter and exit his home. When rain fell, he would feel relieved. This was a sign of worry. When Lady Aisha (r.a.) inquired about the reason for this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “How would I know? Perhaps this black cloud is like a punishment that came to the people of ‘Ad. They thought the black cloud they saw was a cloud bringing rain; but it brought a grievous torment.” (Bukhari, Tafsir, 46/2; Muslim, Istiska, 14-16)

The Dua to Recite When the Wind Blows Strongly

In another hadith narrated from Lady Aisha (r.a.), when a strong wind blew, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the following dua:

“O Allah! I ask for the good of this wind, the thing in this wind, and that which You have sent with it. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this wind, the thing in this wind, and that which You have sent with it.” (Muslim, Istiska, 15)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was always in such a state of alertness and desired that his ummah also possess this spiritual sensitivity.
