Gaining Allah’s Love Through Prayer
Our Prophet (peace be upon him) has encouraged believers with important prayers to gain Allah’s love. One of these prayers is frequently sought by those who desire to attain Allah’s (c.c.) love, a prayer that the Prophet himself recited and recommended.
Recitation of the Prayer
Recitation: “Allahümme innî es’eluke hubbeke ve hubbe men yuhibbuke ve’l-amele’l-lezi yübelliğuni hubbeke. Allahummec’al hubbeke ehabbe ileyye min nefsî ve ehlî ve mine’l- mâil bârid.”
Meaning of the Prayer
Meaning: “O Allah! I ask you for your love, and the love of those who love You, and deeds that will bring me closer to Your love. O Allah! Make Your love more beloved to me than myself, my family, and cool water!” (Tirmidhi, Daavat 73)
This prayer expresses a person’s devotion to Allah and their desire to gain His pleasure. Stating it is more valuable than cool water demonstrates how much importance we place on love.
