Supplication to Recite When the Wind Blows

This is an important supplication that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recommended reciting when the wind blows strongly…

The Prophet’s (PBUH) Response to Wind and His Concern

According to a narration from Lady Aisha (RA), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would become anxious and his face would change color when the wind blew strongly and he saw a black cloud in the sky. Sometimes he would stand and look at that cloud, sometimes turn away, and sometimes enter and exit his home. When it rained, he would feel relieved. This was interpreted as a sign of an impending event. When Lady Aisha (RA) inquired about the reason, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“How would I know? Perhaps this black cloud is like the punishment that came to the people of ‘Ad. They thought the black cloud they saw was a cloud bringing rain; but it brought a grievous torment.” (Bukhari, Tafsir, 46/2; Muslim, Istiska, 14-16)

Supplication to Recite When the Wind Blows Strongly

In another hadith narrated from Lady Aisha (RA), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the following supplication when the wind blew strongly:

“O Allah! I ask You for the good of this wind, what is in it, and whatever You have sent with it. And I seek Your protection from its evil, what is in it, and whatever You have sent with it.” (Muslim, Istiska, 15)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was always in this state of alertness and desired that his Ummah also show the same sensitivity.
