General Janazah Dua
The following general dua is recited first for every Janazah:
JANAZAH PRAYERS
ٱَللّٰهُمَّ ٱغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَآئِبِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَاُنْثَانَا وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا ٱَللّٰهُمَّ مَنْ اَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَاَحْيِهِ عَلَى ٱْلاِسْلاَمِ وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى ٱْلاِيمَانِ
Recitation: “Allâhümmeğfir lihayyinâ ve meyyitinâ ve şâhidinâ ve ğaibinâ ve zekerinâ ve ünsânâ ve sağîrinâ ve kebîrinâ. Allâhümme men ahyeytehû minnâ fe ehyihi ale’l-İslami ve men teveffeytehû minnâ fe teveffehû ale’l-imân.”
Meaning: “O Allah, forgive our living and deceased, those present and absent, our males and females, our young and old. O Allah, whoever You give life among us, grant him life upon Islam, and whomever You take in death from us, take his soul with faith.”
Dua Recited if the Deceased is a Male
وَخُصَّ هٰذَا ٱلْمَيِّتَ بِٱلرَّوْحِ وَٱلرَّاحَةِ وَٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ وَٱلرِّضْوَانِ ٱَللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ كَانَ مُحْسِنًا فَزِدْ فِى اِحْسَانِهِ وَاِنْ كَانَ مُسِيئًا فَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْهُ وَلَقِّهِ ٱْلاَمْنَ وَٱلْبُشْرٰى وَٱلْكَرَامَةَ وَٱلزُّلْفٰى بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا اَرْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
Recitation: “Ve hussa hâze’l-meyyite bi’r-ravhi ve’r-râheti ve’l-mağfireti ve’r-rıdvân. Allâhümme in kâne muhsinen fezid fî ihsânihî ve in kâne musîen fetecâvez anhü ve lekkıhe’l-emne ve’l-büşrâ ve’l-keramete ve’z-zülfâ birahmetike yâ erhamerrâhimîn.”
Meaning: “O Lord, grant this deceased soul comfort, peace, mercy, forgiveness, and acceptance. O Allah, if he was a doer of good, increase his goodness, and if he was an evildoer, overlook his sins. Grant him safety, glad tidings, honor, and nearness to You through Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.”
Dua Recited if the Deceased is a Female
وَخُصَّ هٰذَا ٱلْمَيِّتَةَ بِٱلرَّوْحِ وَٱلرَّاحَةِ وَٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ وَٱلرِّضْوَانِ ٱَللّٰهُمَّ اِنْ كَانَتْ مُحْسِنَةً فَزِدْ فِى اِحْسَانِهَا وَاِنْ كَانَتْ مُسِيئَةً فَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْهُ وَلَقِّهَا ٱْلاَمْنَ وَٱلْبُشْرٰى وَٱلْكَرَامَةَ وَٱلزُّلْفٰى بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا اَرْحَمَ ٱلرَّاحِمِينَ
Recitation: “Ve hussa hâzihi’l-meyyitete bi’r-ravhi ve’r-râheti ve’l-mağfireti ve’r-rıdvân. Allâhümme in kânet muhsineten fezid fî ihsânihâ ve in kânet musîeten fetecâvez anhâ ve lekkıhe’l-emne ve’l-büşrâ ve’l-keramete ve’z-zülfâ birahmetike yâ erhamerrâhimîn.”
The meaning of this dua is the same as the dua recited for males.
Dua Recited if the Deceased is a Male Child
اَلَّلهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا فَرَطًا وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا أَجْرًا وَذُخْرًا وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا شَافِعاً وَمُشَفَّعًا
Recitation: “Allâhümmec’alhu lenâ feratan vec’alhu lenâ ecren ve zühren vec’alhû lenâ şâfian ve müşeffeâ.”
Meaning: “O Allah, make him a forerunner for us, and make him a reward and treasure for us. O Allah, make him our intercessor and whose intercession is accepted.”
Dua Recited if the Deceased is a Female Child
اَلَّلهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا لَنَا فَرَطًا وَاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا أَجْرًا وَذُخْرًا وَاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا شَافِعاً وَمُشَفَّعًا
Recitation: “Allâhümmec’alhâ lenâ feratan vec’alhâ lenâ ecren ve zühren vec’alhâ lenâ şâfiaten ve müşeffeah.”
The meaning of this dua is the same as the dua recited for male children.
