The Prayers and Intentions of Our Prophet (peace be upon him)
A righteous servant desires to be free from shame before Allah, His Messenger, and all creation on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, possessing a purified heart is essential. He makes supplications to be saved from the trials, tribulations, and hardships of that day.
The Prophet’s (peace be upon him) Supplication
Our Prophet Muhammad -sallâllâhu aleyhi wa sallam- would make the following supplications to his Lord:
“O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in faith… and I ask You for a truthful tongue and a purified heart (qalb-i salim)….” (Tirmidhi, Du’a, 23/3407)
The Importance and Purification of the Heart
What a great neglect it is to be captivated by worldly and transient desires! Could there be a worse calamity than polluting the purified heart, which is the sole way to gain Allah’s pleasure, with forbidden acts? What benefit is the cleanliness of the body and outward appearance if the heart is impure?
