“…Rabbena aleyke tevekkelna…” Prayer: When and Why to Recite It (Surah Al-Mumtahanah Verses 4-5)
Dua (Supplication) is when a servant acknowledges their helplessness before the majesty of Allah, expressing feelings of love and respect while seeking His grace and assistance. Literally, it means “to call out, to beseech, to request, and to seek help.” It particularly expresses supplication and requests made from the lower to the higher position. Verses and hadith encourage and emphasize making dua. Seeking refuge in Allah and asking for His help is an important act of worship for every Muslim. As stated in the verse: “Fear Him and hope for His mercy.” (Al-A’raf, 7/56) and “There is nothing more honorable before Allah than supplication.” (Tirmidhi, Duawāt, 1; Ibn Majah, Dua, 1), these hadith demonstrate the virtue of dua.

Surah Al-Mumtahanah: Verses 4-5
Recitation: Rabbenâ aleyke tevekkelnâ wa ileyke enebnâ wa ileykel masîr. Rabbena lā taj’alnā fitnatān lilladhīna kafarū, wagfir lanā rabbunā, innaka antal ‘azīz al-ḥakīm.
Meaning: “Our Lord! We put our trust in You alone, and to You we turn. And the return of all is to You. Our Lord! Do not make us a trial for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, Our Lord! Verily, You are the Exalted, the Wise.”
