“…Rabbenā lā tec’alnā” What Does It Mean?
The Arabic and Turkish recitation and meaning of the “…Rabbenā Lā Tec’alnā” supplication recited against oppressors, mentioned in verse 47 of Surah Al-A’raf.
Supplication (Du‘ā) is a slave acknowledging his helplessness before Allah’s majesty and sublimity, requesting His grace and assistance with feelings of love and reverence. The word “du‘ā” carries meanings such as “to call, to invoke, to desire, and to seek help,” and it is mostly used in the sense of “request and entreaty taking place from the lesser to the greater, from the lower to the upper.” Making supplication has been praised and encouraged in verses and hadith. “Fear Him and hope for His mercy.” (Al-A’raf, 7/56) “There is nothing more honorable before Allah than supplication.” (Tirmidhi, Du’a, 1; Ibn Majah, Dua, 1)
