Meaning and Importance of the “Rabbena zalemna enfüsena” Supplication

Supplication (Du’a) is a servant’s acknowledgement of Allah’s majesty, expressing love and respect while requesting grace and assistance. The word “Du’a” carries meanings such as “to call,” “to desire,” and “to seek help,” and generally denotes the entreaty made from the lesser to the greater, from the lower to the higher. The act of making supplication is praised and encouraged in verses. For example, we are commanded to supplicate to Allah with fear and hope (“Fear Him and hope for His mercy.” – Al-A’raf 7:56). The honorable hadith, “There is nothing more precious than supplication in the sight of Allah” (Tirmidhi, Adab, 1; Ibn Majah, Dua, 1), also emphasizes the virtue of supplication.
